World Wide International Schools Network Launched
When two friends, Nick DeForest and Matt Fleming of Vienna and Budapest sat down to record their first episode of the Globetrottin’ AD’s podcast in 2019, they hoped it could serve as a bridge to connect educators and athletic directors like themselves, working in international schools around the world.
They could not have foreseen how their usual tasks would be disrupted in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, where they saw the devastation of their student athletes, losing precious seasons and opportunities for growth and community.
During the pandemic, the podcasters connected with fellow international school athletic directors Dave Horner and Chris Mott to see how they were maintaining athletic education for their students from a virtual setting. They determined it was time to expand their offering from educators to students, and here, Globetrottin’ Athletes Network (GAN) was born.
They brought forward their mission: To build well-rounded athletes by exploring the dynamic avenues of a world-class athletic education through an internationally accessible platform. The AD’s connected with Sebastien Bellin, retired professional basketball player, terrorist attack survivor, and international school alum, to craft the perfect pairing platform to athletic education.
The early momentum is promising, with hundreds of student athletes from 11 different countries already enrolled prior to the October 4th official launch. There are three key offerings, including student and educator created content, a collaborative space for connection and networking, and monthly keynotes, delivered exclusively to subscribers.
It is always exciting to see passion for education and we look forward to following the connections made and the impressive speakers that GAN will bring to the international school community.
