“Using Curriculum to Give Students Voice” – Dr. Diron Ford

Dr. Diron Ford, the Assistant Principal at Woodside High School in Newport News, Virginia, meets with SchoolRubric Co-Founder Wallace Ting to discuss challenges and successes of the previous school year, upcoming school year considerations, racial tensions and unrest in the country, and previews an upcoming professional development webinar.

In addition to Dr. Ford’s role as an Assistant Principal, he also serves as adjunct faculty professor at Thomas Nelson Community College and the Program Coordinator for the Newport News Public Schools RISE! Male Empowerment Network.

Diron Ford
Dr. Diron T. Ford is the Director of Secondary Instruction in Gloucester County Public Schools (Gloucester, Virginia). He recently received the 2023 900 Men Strong W.H. Gray Community Service Award. During his tenure as Principal, he was selected for this leadership and support of the Booker T. Washington High School community. In 2021, he was honored with the Hampton Roads Committee of 200 + Men Inc. Carter G. Woodson Award for Educational Leadership. He was selected because of his commitment and contributions to educating youth in the Hampton Roads.  In addition, he serves as a Guest Contributor for the School Rubric and ASCD, having published four articles entitled Boys Read Too Summer Reading Program: Engages African American Males; Building a Youth Leadership Program: The Woodside High School Story: Encouraging Young Black Males to Read During a Pandemic; My Year with COVID: Practical Leadership Lesson. He is also an Associate Professor at Virginia Peninsula Community College in Hampton, Virginia.
