EARJ was established in 1937 by individuals, corporations, and the American Chamber of Commerce to afford an academic program comparable in excellence to the curriculum found in superior schools in the United States. The school currently enrolls over 1200 students representing over 35 nationalities across two campuses, one in Gávea and the other in Barra da Tijuca. The school offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
